Alle Flamingos waren aufgepustet, alle Kinder angeschnallt – nun ging es raus auf’s Wasser. Und wieder einmal stellte sich die Frage, wer von den vieren wohl zuerst nass wird?

Hallo, hier ist wieder eure Swede. Die Floaties waren voller heißer Luft, geradezu aufgeblasen, und nun sollte es ans Wellenreiten gehen. Natürlich musste Paps erst seine übliche Rede loswerden: Wir sollten uns nicht zu weit zum Wasser lehnen, sollten nicht schaukeln, sollten uns nicht gegenseitig rammen, sollten nicht dieses, nicht jenes. Im Grunde durften wir nichts, als starr auf den Dingern hocken. Wir nickten artig, weil es Paps so wollte und gerade als wir uns zu Wasser lassen konnten, kam eine kleine Brise und hat beide Schwäne umgeworfen.Mneka und Zhuri lagen plötzlich im Sand wie Krebse. Und nun stellt euch vor, was Paps gemacht hat. Nein, der eilte nicht herbei, um zu helfen. Stattdessen hat er einen Lachanfall bekommen, dieser Lump. Mom fand das weniger lustig, weil sie sich vorgestellt hat, wie das wohl ausgegangen wäre, wenn es auf dem Wasser passiert wäre.Aber nun war es zu spät für Bedenken; nun wollten wir auf das Wasser. Of course, Dad first had to get out his usual roar: we shouldn’t lean too far into the water, we shouldn’t swing, we shouldn’t ram each other, we shouldn’t do this, we shouldn’t do that. Basically we weren’t allowed to do anything but sit rigidly on the things. We nodded politely because Dad wanted us to to do it that way and just as we were about to launch ourselves, a small breeze came and knocked both of the swans over.Mneka and Zhuri suddenly lay on the sand like crabs. And imagine what: Dad didn’t rush over to help. No, instead he burst out laughing, this rascal. Toll! Toll! Toll! Hallo, hier ist eure begeisterte Swede – ich muss euch was erzählen. Paps hat uns an einen See mitgenommen, weil das Wetter »mehr als adäquat war«, wie er sagte. Also lagen wir am Strand, ließen die Sonne ihr bräunendes Werk verrichten, und gerade als sich die Langeweile auf uns stürzen wollte wie ein Löwe auf das Steak, da kramte Paps in einer Tasche und übergab uns die aufblasbaren Schwimmtiere. Geil!Auch heute galt die alte Regel: Wer auf Schwänen und Flamingos reiten will, muss sie zunächst aufblasen. Aber Paps hatte bald ein Einsehen und hat uns dabei geholfen.🇬🇧Great! Great! Great! Hello, this is your enthusiastic Swede - I have something to tell you. Dad took us to a lake since the weather was »more than adequate,« as he put it. We lay on the beach, letting the sun do its tanning work, and just as boredom was about to pounce on us like a lion on a steak, Dad dug into a bag and handed us the floaters. Ach, welch ein Jammer! Die Kleinen setzten kaum eine Pfote ins Wasser, plötzlich brandete eine Woge hinter den Schwimmtieren auf und warf den Schwan der kleinen Mneka um. O weh. Sofort sprang ich nach ihr her, zerrte das nasse Elend ins Trockene. Swede und Dusk kamen gleich nach.Mist! Da lag das tropfnasse Mäuschen also, ließ sich von Swede trösten, ehe Niara ihren Moment der Schwäche haben sollte. Mama sah auf die Kinder herab und wurde wirklich zornig, denn vor nichts anderem warnte sie uns.Vorbei der Leichtsinn, sagte sie, und ab ins Bett! Alle! Das schloss mich jedoch nicht mit ein. Zunächst sollte auch ich eine Aussprache mit ihr haben, auf dass ich ihr erklärte, warum ich die Kleinen in solch waghalsigem Treiben noch bestärkte, anstatt mit der Stimme des Alters auf sie einzureden. Sie, Niara, würde jedenfalls nicht dabei zusehen, wie ihre Töchter ertränken. Schluss mit dem Unsinn!🇬🇧Ah, what a pity! The little ones hardly put a paw in the water when suddenly a wave surged up behind the floaters and knocked over little Mneka's swan. Oh dear. I jumped after her, dragging the wet misery into the dry. Swede and Dusk came right after.Damn! There lay the dripping wet little sweetheart, letting Swede comfort her before Niara could have her moment of weakness. Mom looked down on the children and got really angry because that's all she warned us about. And now it came just as Mama prophesied.No more carelessness, she said, and off to bed! All! However, that didn't include me. First of all, I was supposed to have a talk with her to have me explain why I encouraged the little ones in such daring activities instead of talking to them with the voice of old age. Das Frühstück war gerade heruntergeschlungen, schon sprangen die Kleinen auf, plünderten jeden Rucksack und jede Tasche auf der Suche nach spaßbringendem Gerät. Sie wurden fündig: Die Schwimmtiere. Prompt baute sich Niara vor den Kleinen auf und verlangte zu wissen, wie sich die Drei das dachten. Wollten sie etwa wieder ins Wasser fallen, kaum, dass sie wieder trocken waren? Oder wollten sie beim nächsten Mal etwa vollends ertrinken?Ich schlug vor, auf den Holzpfählen ein Auge auf die Kleinen zu haben, während diese an einer flachen Stelle im Wasser plantschten. Das beruhigte Niara ein wenig. Doch ehe das Vergnügen beginnen sollte, musste die Arbeit getan werden. Aufpusten!🇬🇧Breakfast had just been wolfed down when the little ones jumped up, raiding every backpack and bag in search of some fun gadgets. They found what they were looking for: the floaties. Niara promptly stood up in front of the little ones and demanded to know what the three had in mind. Were they about to fall back into the water as soon as they were dry? Or did they want to drown completely next time?I suggested keeping an eye on the little ones on the wooden pilings while they splashed around in a shallow spot of water. That calmed Niara a little. Wir wollten gerade nach Hause fahren, da entdeckte Dusk einen Brunnen. Mit Wasser. Nicht so wellig. Aber immerhin sprudelnd. Und das konnte nur eines bedeuten: Schwimmen auf den aufblasbaren Tieren. Yay.Bei der großen Mutter, Erbauerin der Welten, wir lieben es, auf dem Wasser zu treiben.🇬🇧We were about to drive home when Dusk spotted a well. With water. Not so wavy. But still bubbly. Hier ist wieder eure Swede. Ich will ich euch gar nicht so lange warten lassen: Hier sind die Bilder von Dusk und Mneka und mir auf dem Meer. Seht ihr das? Seht ihr, wie wir uns in die großen Wellen stürzen?Aber wenn wir schon bei Stürzen sind: Leider kam es, wie es kommen musste; als der Übermut größer war als Kindes Vernunft, fiel erst Mneka von ihrem Schwan und zwei Sekunden später auch Dusk. O weh. Sofort kam Papa hergerannt, fluchte wie ein Kesselflicker – er hasst nichts mehr als nasse Pfoten – und zerrte uns am Kragen heraus. Erst Mneka. Dann Dusk.Zum Glück ist nichts passiert außer nasses Fell. Drum fing Dusk an zu lachen. Mneka lachte auch. Bald lachten wir alle, denn das Wellenreiten hat riesigen Spaß gemacht.🇬🇧Here is your Swede again. I don't want to make you wait any longer: Here are the pictures of Dusk and Mneka and me surfing on the great water. Do you see that? Do you see us dancing onto the big waves?Unfortunately, things happened as they had to: When the high spirits were greater than a child's good sense, first Mneka fell from her swan and just two seconds later Dusk too. Oh my. Immediately Dad came by, swore like a tinker - he hates nothing more than wet paws - and yanked us out by the collar. First Mneka. Then Dusk.Luckily nothing bad happened except wet fur. So Dusk started laughing. Mneka laughed too. So! Hier ist eure Swede. Nun ist Schluss mit dem Sittentum und dem Touristsein. Jetzt wollen wir Spaß haben. Mneka wollte auch Spaß haben. Dusk auch. Papa wusste das natürlich und war gut vorbereitet; er hatte jede Menge Schwimmtiere dabei, und obendrein hat er uns die beste Stelle am Strand herausgesucht. Hier würde es etwas werden mit den Schwimmtieren, hat er gesagt, und übergab uns die platten Tiere. Aufpusten mussten wir sie natürlich wieder selbst, denn wer auf dem großen Wasser reiten will, der ist auch groß genug zum Aufpusten der Schwimmtiere – das waren Paps‘ Worte, nicht meine.Aber die Überraschung kam erst noch! Stellt euch vor: Paps hatte für uns alle einen Schwan besorgt, damit wir sicherer auf dem Wasser treiben konnten. Sogar ein schwarzer Schwan war dabei. Whoa, so geil!🇬🇧That's enough! Here is your Swede. Enough of customs and being a well behaved tourist. Now it's time for all the fun. Mneka also wanted to have fun. Dusk as well. Dad knew that and was well prepared; he had a lot of floaties with him and on top of that he picked out the bestest spot on the beach. This will be the purrfect place for some surfing, he said, and handed us the flattened floating animals. Of course we had to inflate them ourselves, because if you want to ride the big waves, you are big enough to inflate the floaters - those were Dad's words, not mine.But the surprise was yet to come! Guess what, Dad had gotten a swan for all of us to have us floating more safely. There was even a black swan. Aber auch der störrischste Flamingo war bald zur vollen Größe ausgedehnt und schwimmbereit; nun sollte auch damit geschwommen werden. Das waren die Worte der Kleinen.Und nun folgten meine Worte: Sie sollten keinen Unsinn treiben auf dem Wasser, sollten nicht so weit hinaustreiben, sollten nicht schaukeln, sollten nicht in das Gummi beißen, sollten nicht aneinanderstoßen.Nachdem die Belehrungen aufgesagt, rannten die Mädchen wie angebissen los und ließen sich treiben. Unnütz zu erwähnen, dass eine der beiden schon nach wenigen Sekunden klatschnass war.🇬🇧But even the most stubborn flamingo was soon blown out to full size and ready to float; now it should be used for floating. Period. Was tut man, wenn die Mädchen in der Tür stehen und hundertmal hintereinander fragen, „ob wir heute an den See fahren“? Genau, man gibt nach. Denn die Mädchen würden auch noch hundertmal fragen, und das so lange, bis sie die „richtige“ Antwort bekämen.Also fuhren wir an den See.Die Mädchen fanden diese Idee „sooo toll“, dass sie geraden Wegs ins Kinderzimmer verschwanden und die Schwimmtiere herauskramten.Nach einigen, endlos lang erscheinenden Minuten des Fahrens und des Fragens, „wann wir denn endlich da wären“, waren wir tatsächlich da, eilten zum Strand und- nein, wir konnten noch nicht auf’s Wasser. Erst einmal mussten die Schwimmtiere aufgepustet werden.Als kleine Wiedergutmachung für all das Insistieren, mussten die Mädchen das allein ins Werk setzen.🇬🇧What do you do when the girls stand in the door and ask you a hundred times, "Will we go to the lake"? Exactly, you give in. Because the girls would ask another hundred times, and they'll keep asking until they got the "right" answer.Well, let's head out to the lake.The girls liked this "greeeat" idea.
